At Independent Home Finance Inc., we stand with the communities affected by the devastating firestorms in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. In these challenging times, we want to ensure that survivors know about the financial relief available and how we can provide support to help rebuild and recover.

Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced a partnership with major financial institutions to provide mortgage relief to homeowners in designated fire-affected areas. These initiatives are designed to offer immediate relief to those facing the loss of their homes or significant damage.

Key Mortgage Relief Initiatives

The following commitments have been made by Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan Chase, U.S. Bank, and Wells Fargo:

  1. 90-Day Mortgage Payment Forbearance
    • Homeowners can delay payments for up to 90 days without penalty or impact on their credit score.
    • Streamlined processes make it easier to request relief, with no need for extensive documentation.
    • No balloon payments required at the end of the forbearance period; repayment options are flexible.
  2. Waiver of Late Fees
    • A 90-day waiver for any mortgage-related late fees incurred during the forbearance period.
  3. Moratorium on Foreclosures
    • A 60- to 90-day suspension of new foreclosures for impacted property owners.
  4. Protection from Credit Reporting
    • Forborne amounts will not be reported as late payments to credit agencies, safeguarding credit scores.
